There are occasional moments in life which are simply unforgettable.
For example, scenario’s like visiting people while in the hospital for the first time.
Or finally being handed your degree after years of study at university.
Although both are interesting, they are minor in comparison to what the Masciantonio family experienced when their baby daughter, Gianna, met Pope Francis in Philadelphia.
Donny Asper, FBI agent who happened to be helping with the Pope’s security that day was also good friends with the Masciantonito family so he gave them a call.
Gianna had been diagnosed with an extremely rare blood disorder and a tumor and her parents are both devout Catholics.
They were hoping to receive Pope Francis’ blessings in downtown Philadelphia.
However there were swarms of people in the area all aiming for the same thing, the family were hesitant to leave the house, fearing Gianna’s condition might get worse amongst the crowd.
They eventually decided to throw caution to the wind and make the journey and headed to an area where the pope was expected to pass through.
Once Joey saw Pope Francis making his way toward their location, he held baby Gianna up high to attract the attention of the security guards.
When one of them spotted the girl they took her to the pope.
The family tried to stay positive in the face of adversity as the doctor’s visits were so frequent.
However, almost 8 weeks following Gianna’s encounter with the pope, Joey and Kristen had received a miracle.
Scans showed her tumor had shrunk significantly, which allowed Gianna to begin a steady recovery.
Take a look at the video below for more details on the story:
