You never know just how much impact your every action can have when you show kindness and compassion to humans or animals.
Lauren Gauthier’s general positivity and caring nature ended up saving her life.
As a result, she has now devoted her entire life to saving abused and neglected dogs.
Through Mission Beagle & Hound Rescue she gives them a second chance that they wouldn’t have otherwise.
Lauren knew she had to help the one eye bloodhound Victoria, was she was found abandoned.
However, she would never have guessed what it would eventually lead to …
One day, in South Carolina, Lauren found a very special dog when she was visiting different animal shelters.
There was one particular dog that stood out called Victoria, a one-eyed puppy who was abandoned and afraid.
The wonderful sweet dog would be taken home. “I saw Victoria in a Carolina animal shelter and wanted to go home straight away,” Lauren explains.
Lauren and Victoria have shared a unique bond from the moment they met. “She senses when I’m upset or stressed,” Lauren says.
But before long Victoria started acting strange around Laura.
There happened to be a small red spot on Victoria’s nose, which Lauren would sniff around the area intently.
After a time, she decided to get the bump looked at by a doctor, she couldn’t believe what she was eventually being given the diagnosis.
The small red spot was indeed a basal cell carcinoma, which is considered a form of skin cancer.
Thankfully Lauren was able to have surgery to remove cancer before it had a chance to spread to other areas and become more serious as Victoria had offered early warning with her actions.
Lauren says “It really is amazing that my dog was so persistent in sniffing the area that was skin cancer.”
“The surgery itself has changed my face, and if my dog had not picked up on it, I may have ignored the spot, which could have risked further disfigurement. Hounds have a keen sense of smell but I never thought that I would personally benefit from it!”
Lauren firmly believes this is Victoria’s way of returning the favor after rescuing her from abandonment.
Furthermore, Lauren believes that her cancer stemmed from her use of sunbeds and is now warning others of the dangers.
“My advice for teenagers and others considering tanning bed use is – don’t. There are many other options available, like spray tans, to help improve cosmetic appearance. The cost and the damage you do to your skin is way too high, and even though growing older seems a world away, once you are older, you will pay a price for tans and tanning beds,” Lauren concludes.
Help us spread the awareness of the dangers of tanning beds and please Share this post with others.
