To grasp the true meaning of life and death before you’re ready is exceptionally confusing when you’re young.
Dakota Pitts wasn’t emotionally prepared to experience any type of heartbreak at the tender age of 5.
Rob Pitts, his father worked as a police officer at the Terre Haute Indiana Police Department,
He was left fatherless when Rob passed away during an investigation that went awry.
After Rob’s passing, the community came together to support him, during the funeral, they lined the streets and filling an auditorium to show their support.
Following the funeral service Dakota approached his mother with a special request, little did she know what it would be.
Dakota Pitts was gearing up for his return to school following his father’s funeral service.
He confessed to his mother that he had one request to help him during his return, he wanted another police officer to escort him to school on his first day back.
His mom contacted the police department hoping an officer would assist the youngster’s plea.
Little did the young boy realize how his late father’s former colleagues were prepared to go above and beyond.
Lining the entrance to the school was 70 yes 70 police officers standing in formation to wish him luck.
HIs mother will never forget the experience as Dakota himself wore his father’s badge as he walked in.
Like we said it’s never easy to lose a loved one when you’re young but the memories will be treasured in the years to come.
What a fantastic gesture for the officers to make at a time when the integrity of the entire force has been called into question.
Without them, none of it would have been possible and they were happy to be able to give Dakota exactly what he wanted.
