Brandalyn Mae Porter works as a nurse in a retirement home in Texas, USA, and seem to have a very positive impact on the residents there.
She has a certain way of making them feel comfortable and at ease all of the time.
Brandalyn captured a very special photograph of a residents hand and it’s circulating rapidly online.
While at work one day she decided to help a newcomer to the home wash up and paint her nails afterward.
This gesture had put the resident in a brilliant humor.
She shared her story on the Facebook page LoveWhatMatters since then the post has gathered a huge response, she wrote:
“Today I painted a new resident’s nails at work and as we were going over colors, she mentioned she wanted clear. The only thought that came to my mind was ‘CLEAR?! That’s no fun.’ I asked her why she wanted clear and she said, ‘My hands are ugly, I don’t want to draw attention to them.’ I then carefully responded with, ‘Your hands tell the story of your life. They tell the story of love, of care and adventure. These hands have touched and held things that most people can only wish to one day.’ And with that, she went with the color pink for her nails.
Sometimes what we are so insecure with, others find beauty in.“
Brandalyn’s successfully convinced the woman that it was alright to paint her nails, as her hands were beautiful and important because they revealed her years of experience.
For the remainder of the day, she proudly showed off her beautiful newly polished hands. Small gestures can make such a huge difference to the life of others and sometimes make them feel important again.
